Upasana Kamineni, the wife of RRR actor Ram Charan, made a statement at the Oscars 2023 ceremony. She represented India in a classic white saree instead of a usual gown. Along with her husband, Ram Charan, and the RRR team, she attended the 95th Academy Awards. The film won the Best Original Song Award for Naatu Naatu.
Furthermore, Upasana’s traditional yet elegant look was a testimony to her ethical choices. She chose to wear a sustainable customized ivory silk saree made by Hyderabad-based designer Jayanti Reddy. The silk saree was made using handwoven silk created from recycled scraps, promoting ethical and responsible fashion. Moreover, the elegant six yards had handmade borders featuring intricate designs that added to its beauty. Additionally, she paired it with a matching silk blouse embellished with scalloped lace on the half-length sleeves.
Upasana is a strong advocate of eco-conscious and sustainable fashion and chose to promote the same at the Oscars. To complement her sustainable saree, she completed her traditional ensemble with a handmade potli made from scraps. In addition, she accessorized her look with beautiful floral-shaped ruby earrings, a pearl statement necklace with a matching ruby floral ornament, and ornate bracelets. To complete her look, she opted for a messy low bun, a glossy mauve lip shade, a dainty bindi, and minimal makeup.
Jayanti Reddy, a designer based in Hyderabad and a close friend of the couple, shared the idea behind Upasana’s red-carpet attire. According to Reddy, Upasana was enthusiastic about wearing a sustainable outfit. As a result, local Telangana artists designed the dress from handwoven fabric for her appearance at the Academy Awards. The saree not only portrayed the beauty of cultural heritage and love but also aligned with Upasana’s desire for sustainable fashion.
